Seven open architecture competitions for students and young architects, each checked on the organiser's own site, with deadlines, fees and prizes, plus how to tell a credible competition from a fee collector.
Checked on 16 October 2026: every competition below was verified on the organiser's own website on that date. Organisers do change dates, fees and rules, and fees often rise in stages, so open the official page and read the full brief before you pay anything. MOA is not affiliated with any of these competitions.
If you are looking for architecture competitions to enter in 2026 and 2027, there is no shortage. The hard part is choosing briefs that are worth the weeks of work: a credible jury, published winners, fair terms and a fee that matches the prize. This calendar lists seven open competitions, from a December student contest in India to a 2027 award for unbuilt work, each with the dates and costs that matter.

A few notes on the list:
Paid ideas competitions are a business, and most are honest ones. A few checks separate a good use of your time from a poor one:
Enter fewer competitions and finish them properly. Pick a brief that fills a gap in your portfolio: if you have no public building, a health centre or a market is worth more to you than another house. Work out the hours honestly, since a finished entry usually takes several weekends of serious effort, and make sure the deadline does not collide with your juries or your practical training semester.
Whatever the result, a well-presented entry is portfolio material. Our architecture portfolio examples show how to present competition work alongside built projects, and you can publish your entry on your MOA profile, free, so studios and clients can see it.
As of 16 October 2026, open competitions include The Unbox 2026 and Tiny House 2026 by Volume Zero, House of Poetry by Young Architects Competitions, Transparence 21.0 for Indian students, and the eVolo 2027 Skyscraper Competition, which is already taking registrations.
Some are free and some charge a fee. Check the brief for any fee before you register. Most of the international ideas competitions in this list are paid, with fees that rise closer to the deadline.
Many ideas competitions are open to everyone, including students, and some, like Buildner's Unbuilt Award, have separate student prizes. Others set an age limit, such as 18 to 35 for Young Architects Competitions.
A win or a mention is a useful line on a CV, but the bigger value is the work itself: a resolved, well-presented project that you can show in your portfolio and talk about at an interview.
