How to choose a Bangalore architecture internship by the work you want to learn: homes, workplaces or institutions, plus COA-verified Bengaluru architects on MOA and how to plan the commute.
To find a good architecture internship in Bangalore, start with the kind of work you want to learn, not a list of famous names. The city's offices broadly split into homes, workplaces and institutions, and each one teaches a different semester. This guide explains those three kinds of practice, lists the COA-verified architects on MOA who are based in Bengaluru, and covers what the metro, the sites and the money mean for your choice.
It is the Bangalore companion to our national guide. For the Council of Architecture rules, the application timeline, how to raise the stipend question and a cold email template, read Architecture Internships in India (2026) first. We will not repeat it here.
About the numbers below: we found no published survey of architecture intern stipends in Bangalore and no credible published figure for what an intern pays for a room in the city, so this guide quotes neither. The office leasing figure comes from Savills India as reported by IANS. Everything about MOA members comes from their public MOA profiles as they appeared on 16 Oct 2026.
The Council of Architecture's Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations, 2020 describe practical training as following a project from concept to working drawings, tendering and site supervision. How much of that you see depends on the office's work. In Bengaluru, three kinds of practice are worth telling apart.
Residential offices work on independent houses, villas and apartment blocks. On a house for a compact city plot, you are likely to learn how setbacks and floor area shape a plan on a tight plot. Our guide to what you can build on a 30x40 or 30x50 plot is useful reading before the interview.
Approvals are where Bengaluru has changed recently, and it is worth asking about. In September 2024 the city's then civic body, the BBMP, extended its online "Nambike Nakshe" approval route to all eight zones. It covers independent houses on plots of less than 50x80 feet, and the plan has to be vetted by an empanelled engineer or architect, Deccan Herald reported. A year later, the Karnataka government notified five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, to replace the BBMP, PTI reported. So ask the office how it files plans today, and whether you will see one through.
Some Bengaluru members on MOA have published residential work you can study before you write. On Dinesh Kumar S's profile, SENSCAPE architects describes Alaya Villament as a 1,60,000 sq ft residential development on 2 acres in a developing IT corridor, with units of 22 by 60 feet set around the edge of the site to leave open space in the middle. Sheetal's profile, for ICARUS ARCHITECTS, describes a Bengaluru home for an elderly couple that puts accessibility, comfort and natural light first.
This is the work that most sets Bengaluru apart. The city led India's office market in 2025 with 20.2 million sq ft of gross absorption, according to Savills India, as reported by IANS. Across India, IT and business process companies took 33 per cent of that leasing and flexible workspace operators 15 per cent, with global capability centres a key source of new demand.
For an intern, that means office fit-outs, from a single floor to a campus: space plans, furniture layouts, ceilings and services drawings, revised as the client's needs change. You learn how a large drawing set is managed and how consultants work together. The risk is a semester of test-fits with little design, so ask what you will actually draw. If a project is going for a green rating, ask to see how the paperwork is prepared. Our guide to IGBC, GRIHA and LEED explains what those ratings involve.
None of the projects that the Bengaluru architects in our table have published on MOA so far is an office. If workplace design is what you want, check a studio's own portfolio for it before you apply.
Institutional buildings are slower. They are often built in phases, involve committees and several consultants, and need careful code and accessibility checks. You may not see a building finished, but you will likely work on a bigger drawing set than a house needs. Ask which stage the project is at.
The same COA regulations also allow training in "an organization operating in an allied field of practice or research", if your institution approves it and an architect with at least five years of experience mentors you. If urban research or planning interests you more than a studio, confirm both conditions with your college before you accept.
On MOA's architects page you can filter by city. Each profile shows the member's cities, services, COA verification and published projects. These fifteen architects give Bengaluru, Bangalore Urban or Bangalore Rural as their base and show the COA Verified badge. The table only describes what each profile shows. It is not a ranking, and being listed does not mean a studio takes interns.

Read the services column as a clue. Five of the fifteen list plan approvals, which points towards approval drawings. Twelve list construction drawings, which points towards working drawing sets. Fourteen list interior design, so expect interiors to be part of the semester in most of these offices. Profiles also show a completed-projects count, which runs from 1 to 100 among these fifteen. It is the member's own figure, but it hints at how busy an office is.
Then open the projects. Brick and MoRa's profile shows Golden Grand Apt, a Bengaluru apartment of 2,200 sq ft built-up, published as design renders. That is a useful project to ask about in an interview: which drawings came after the renders, and who went to site.
A few other verified architects list Bengaluru alongside a base elsewhere, such as Pune or Ahmedabad: ask them where you would actually sit. MOA also lists interior designers in Bengaluru, but an interior office counts for practical training only with your college's approval and a qualifying architect as mentor.
Before accepting, ask for the office address and the current site locations, then do a trial run at the hour you would really travel.
We found no credible published Bangalore stipend or rent figure, so do your own sum. List your monthly costs before the interview: rent and deposit, any brokerage, the commute, food, printing and software. Then ask for three things in writing: the stipend, the working days and hours, and whether site travel is reimbursed. If you are moving to the city for the semester, an office near your metro line can be worth more than a slightly higher stipend across town.
Take a portfolio that shows how you draw, not only how you render. Our architecture portfolio examples show what strong Indian portfolios put first.
Decide whether you want residential, workplace or institutional work. Then use the Bengaluru filter on MOA's architects page, your college's training coordinator and the MOA jobs board, and check each studio's projects before you write.
Often, but the Council's 2020 regulations set no minimum stipend, and we found no published Bangalore stipend survey. Ask before you accept, in writing, and compare the offer with your real monthly costs, including travel.
It can be, if a qualifying architect mentors you and your college approves the office. Ask whether you will see drawings through to site.
