Published on 10/29/202612 min read
Pooja room interior design costs about ₹8,000 to ₹85,000 for a wall-mounted pooja unit, ₹15,000 to ₹1.35 lakh for a floor-standing unit in the living room, and ₹40,000 to ₹2.8 lakh for a small 4 by 5 ft pooja room with a door, marble cladding, a back-lit panel, a false ceiling and lights. Those are totals of our line-by-line worked examples below, including GST, built from listings and government rates read on 22 October 2026.
About the numbers below: every line uses a published rate read on 22 Oct 2026: Wooden Street and Philips product pages (prices including taxes), IndiaMART seller listings, NoBroker Interiors, Asian Paints Beautiful Homes, Spacewood and Design Cafe guides (market ranges, mostly silent on tax and fitting), an InfraLens rate analysis for electrical points, and CPWD's Delhi Schedule of Rates 2023 for marble work, which already includes labour and 18% GST. Budget, mid and premium use the low, middle and top of each band. They are illustrations, not quotes. Sizes are MOA's worked example.
This post is about money. For layouts and materials, see our pooja room design guide for apartments; for direction, Vastu for the pooja room. Unit sizes and heights, and door types, have their own guides in this series: mandir design for flats, and pooja room door designs with prices.

GST on a pooja room: 18% on a works contract
A firm that supplies material and fits it into your home is doing a works contract, which the GST Council's guide defines to include fitting out and installation in immovable property, at 18% (GST Council). In the tables, "GST at 18%" is added only to contractor-billed lines whose source does not include tax. Three kinds of line already include it:
CPWD marble items. The DSR 2023 preface says the effect of GST at 18% on works contracts is built into every item, and that rates are Delhi market rates of April 2023 (CPWD DSR 2023, Vol. 1).
Retail products priced "inclusive of all taxes", such as Wooden Street units and Philips lights.
Ready-made goods you buy yourself carry the goods rate for their classification, not the works contract rate. The GST Council's September 2025 changes moved some handicrafts, including carved stone products and idols of stone and wood, to 5% (GST Council, 56th meeting). Ask the seller to print the HSN code and rate on the invoice.

Where the lines come from:
Budget: Wooden Street's Itiha wall unit is ₹7,999 including taxes, with mounting hardware and "free installation" listed. Its drawers and back panels are engineered wood, and the page recommends a brick or concrete wall (Wooden Street).
Mid: Asian Paints gives ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 per sq ft for wooden carpentry and carpenter charges of ₹300 to ₹500 per sq ft, without saying whether the first includes the second, so labour has its own line (Asian Paints Beautiful Homes). Spacewood prices MDF CNC jaali at ₹200 to ₹350 per sq ft before lamination or paint (Spacewood).
Premium: a Chennai seller on IndiaMART lists a Corian pooja unit up to 600 x 600 x 300 mm at ₹60,000 a piece, and another lists a wall-mounted Corian mandir at ₹65,000 (IndiaMART). Neither states tax or fitting, so both are added.

Where each line comes from
Door. PVC pooja doors on IndiaMART mostly sit between ₹1,500 and ₹4,000, with ₹2,500 the most common price, including a 600 x 2050 mm door (IndiaMART). NoBroker gives ₹18,000 to ₹32,000 for a CNC-cut panel with 8 mm toughened glass behind it, and ₹32,000 to ₹75,000 for a wooden door with artistic glass (NoBroker Interiors). Neither says whether frame, fitting or GST is included.
Marble. CPWD's DSR 2023 prices 8 mm marble tile on a wall with adhesive at ₹2,766.45 per sq m (item 7.38.1.2), 18 mm Italian marble wall lining at ₹10,414.80 (8.11.1), an 18 mm marble counter over 0.5 sq m at ₹3,078.40 (8.2.1.2) and edge moulding at ₹298.60 per metre (8.3.1). We converted at 10.76 sq ft per sq m.
Back-lit panel and jaali. Spacewood's rates for acrylic (₹350 to ₹700), HDHMR (₹300 to ₹500) and solid wood (₹700 to ₹1,500 and up) per sq ft. Corian mandir work on IndiaMART is mostly ₹900 to ₹2,500 per sq ft, and one Delhi seller's back-lit Corian mandir is listed at ₹1,200.
Ceiling. Design Cafe's September 2026 guide gives ₹78 per sq ft for gypsum and ₹500 to ₹1,200 for wood, and says lighting is usually extra (Design Cafe). On 20 sq ft, expect a minimum charge (our guidance).
Lights and points. Philips lists its 5 m, 25 W warm white Cove Glow strip at ₹509.90 and its StarFit downlight at ₹254, both including taxes (Philips, Philips). For a concealed light point with wire, switch, labour and a 15% margin, InfraLens computes about ₹930 to ₹1,570 by city, as a market range rather than a schedule of rates (InfraLens).
Bell and polish. Small brass bells on IndiaMART are mostly ₹140 to ₹350, and temple bells ₹1,200 to ₹1,250 (IndiaMART). A NoBroker forum answer from June 2026 gives ₹80 to ₹100 per sq ft for melamine and ₹165 to ₹210 for PU (NoBroker forum).
Door, marble and the cabinet carry most of a pooja room budget; lights, points and the bell are small lines. Illustrative shares from this post's worked examples. Diagram: MOA
The split shows where to look first: in a budget room the cabinet is the biggest line, while in a premium room the door and the marble are about 60% of the total.
Marble, Corian or wood: marble pooja room cost per sq ft
Per sq ft, CPWD's marble wall lining costs less than most Corian work listed on IndiaMART, and MDF jaali costs a fraction of marble jaali. Rates read 22 Oct 2026. Diagram: MOA
Marble. Per sq ft of wall, CPWD's rates run from about ₹257 for 8 mm tile to ₹968 for 18 mm Italian slab, labour and GST included. 18 mm Raj Nagar veneer on cramps is ₹534 plus the cramps. These are Delhi rates based on April 2023 prices, so a 2026 quote in your city will differ; use them as a benchmark (our guidance). Our natural stone guide compares Makrana and other marbles.
Corian mandir price. Mostly ₹900 to ₹2,500 per sq ft on IndiaMART, with a median near ₹1,200, and ₹19,000 to ₹69,000 for most units sold by the piece. Ask what the square foot is measured on.
Wooden pooja room design with price. Ply and laminate at ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 per sq ft of front; Asian Paints says solid teak or mahogany climbs past ₹3,000.
Mandir jali design price. Design Cafe gives ₹90 to ₹450 per sq ft for laser-cut MDF and ₹850 to ₹2,800 for marble (Design Cafe).
Pooja room design low price: where to save
Buy a ready-made unit with installation included instead of building one.
Clad only the back wall, in 8 mm marble tile, and paint the sides.
Choose laminate over veneer: no polish line.
Use a plug-in LED unit and an existing socket, which saves a new point.
Skip the false ceiling in a pooja room under 25 sq ft and light it from the room outside (our guidance).
Every line named with its quantity and unit: sq ft of front, sq ft of cladding, number of points.
Board and finish: plywood grade, laminate or veneer, and the polish (melamine or PU).
Stone: type, thickness (8 mm tile or 18 mm slab), finish and whether fixing, cramps and edge moulding are in.
Corian or acrylic: brand, thickness and whether the back-lit cavity, LED and driver are included.
Door: shutter material, glass thickness, frame, hardware and fitting.
Electrical: number of points, wire size, switch brand and who supplies the lights.
Installation, transport and debris removal as separate lines.
GST: whether each rate includes it, the rate charged and the HSN or SAC code.
