Project description
The clients are a young doctor couple with two small kids who wanted a compact three-bedroom house on a tight urban plot.
As medical professionals, they spend most of their time in artificially illuminated, air-conditioned, closed hospital spaces, and they expected the design to help them unwind and relax after a busy workday.
The couple had spent most of their childhood in South Indian villages, and one of them had also spent a considerable part of their college life in Kerala. Hence, they wanted to incorporate a touch of South Indian traditional or vernacular flavor into the design.
The material palette has been consciously chosen to create a unique blend and character for the architecture of the house. The basic materials used are exposed brick, solid wood joinery, terracotta roof tiles, and jaali blocks, with Kota stone and Athangudi tile flooring.
The chajjas are designed using MS grill with terracotta tiles. Solid wood and natural veneers have been extensively used for both fixed and loose furniture to complement the overall design style and material palette of the house.
