Colour Trends 2027: Every Paint Brand's Colour of the Year, Compared
Valspar, Behr, Dulux, Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore have named their 2027 colours. Here is each one with its code and date, how it reads in Indian light, and which brands have not announced yet.

Five paint brands have named a 2027 colour of the year so far, and four of the five are greens: Valspar's Cottage Door (a grey-blue), Behr's Grounded, Dulux's Soulful Sage, Sherwin-Williams' Celery and Benjamin Moore's Webster Green. Asian Paints, Berger, Nerolac and Indigo had not announced a 2027 colour when we checked their own websites on 18 October 2026, and Pantone names its colour in December.
Below is each pick exactly as the brand publishes it, with the date, then how it is likely to behave in Indian light and what to pair it with.
About the details below: names, codes, dates, LRVs and screen values come from each brand's own pages, opened on 18 Oct 2026. The notes on Indian light, rooms and pairings are our guidance, not the brands' claims. A screen value is only a guide: paint on your wall will look different, so test a real sample.

The swatches use each brand's own published screen value (for Dulux and Benjamin Moore, the value in their page data). None was sampled from a photograph.
Valspar: Cottage Door 8004-38E
Valspar announced Cottage Door on 5 August 2026 and calls it a "mid-tone neutral blue" that blends warm and cool undertones (Valspar press release). Its colour page lists an LRV of 26.0, RGB 122, 143, 151 and hex #7A8F97. Valspar pairs it with Moon Shot 8005-2B, a warm grey, and Apricot Blush 8003-8A, a muted creamy pink, plus light wood.
How to use it at home
- In Indian light (our guidance): with an LRV of 26 it is a true mid-tone, so it will look noticeably darker on a shaded wall than on the chip. In north light and through the grey monsoon months, expect it to read greyer and cooler; warm-white lamps pull it back towards blue-grey with some warmth.
- Rooms: bedrooms, a study, or one wall of a living room.
- Pair with (our guidance): teak or light oak, cane, off-white ceilings, and terracotta or rust textiles to warm it up.
Behr: Grounded (T27-01)
Behr named Grounded on 26 August 2026, the tenth year of its colour of the year programme. It describes the colour as an "earthy olive green" that moves between olive and moss with subtle brown undertones, and says it suits living rooms and kitchens, indoors and out (Behr press release). The colour page lists LRV 9, RGB 86, 83, 68 and hex #565344. Its 2027 palette pairs it with seven returning colours, including Coastal Beige, Wheat Grass and Denim Light.
How to use it at home
- In Indian light (our guidance): an LRV of 9 means it reflects very little light. In a compact flat it can make a room feel smaller and darker, and under cool-white tube lights it tends to turn muddy. It looks best in a well-lit room with warm lamps in the evening.
- Rooms: one feature wall, a TV wall, or joinery such as a wardrobe front, rather than all four walls of a small bedroom.
- Pair with (our guidance): warm off-white walls, brass, terracotta, jute or wool dhurries, and Kota or sandstone floors.
- Outdoors (our guidance): dark colours absorb more of the sun's heat, so on a sun-facing facade we would keep it to doors, grilles or a recessed band.
Dulux (AkzoNobel): Soulful Sage
AkzoNobel announced Soulful Sage on 8 September 2026 as its global 2027 colour, describing it as "an ethereal, soft and silvery green" (AkzoNobel media release). It sits at the centre of three colour stories: Glow (earth tones), Light (quiet pale tones with darker shades) and Lift (positive, uplifting tones) (AkzoNobel Color of the Year 2027). AkzoNobel does not publish a code with the name. Its Dulux Ireland colour page uses hex #A3A793 for the swatch and suggests Chiffon White as the matching white, with Ashen White and Hushed Grey as neutral partners.
For India: when we checked dulux.in on 18 Oct 2026, the Indian site still featured its 2026 colour, Free Groove, and had no Soulful Sage page. Check with the Dulux India site or a dealer before you plan around it.
How to use it at home
- In Indian light (our guidance): silvery greens bleach towards grey in hard south or west sun and look richer in soft north light. Test it on the wall that gets the least sun as well as the one that gets the most.
- Rooms: bedrooms and living rooms where you want a calm background.
- Pair with (our guidance): warm whites, light ash or oak, linen, and a little terracotta from the Glow story so it does not feel cold.
Sherwin-Williams: Celery SW 6421
Sherwin-Williams and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams named Celery on 15 September 2026, calling it "a soft, muted green with subtle yellow undertones" (Sherwin-Williams press release). It is sold as Celery SW 6421, and as HGSW6421 in the HGTV Home line. The colour page gives RGB 224, 221, 189. Its partner palette includes White Flour SW 7102, Woven Wicker SW 9104, Artichoke SW 6179, Cocoon SW 6173, Kirsch Red SW 6313 and Plum Brown SW 6272 (Sherwin-Williams 2027 page).
How to use it at home
- In Indian light (our guidance): this is the lightest of the five. Its yellow undertone will show strongly in warm afternoon sun and under warm-white lamps, so it can tip towards pale lime. In north light and cool daylight LEDs it stays fresh and green.
- Rooms: kitchens, dining areas and small rooms that need to feel lighter.
- Pair with (our guidance): off-white shutters, cane and rattan, white or grey stone counters, and one strong accent such as a deep red, as Sherwin-Williams does with Kirsch Red.
Benjamin Moore: Webster Green HC-130
Benjamin Moore named Webster Green HC-130 on 14 October 2026 (NJBIZ report of the announcement). On its Color of the Year 2027 page the brand says the colour balances "the stability of blue and the warmth of yellow", and suggests it for built-ins, architectural details, trim against neutral walls, entryways and front doors. The colour page lists LRV 20.2. Its 2027 palette includes White Down OC-131, Nelson Blue CW-635, Shakespeare Tan 228 and Antique Copper 1169.
How to use it at home
- In Indian light (our guidance): a mid-to-deep green that holds its colour well in bright light and goes moody in dim corners. It reads as green rather than grey under most lamps.
- Rooms: the brand's own suggestion suits Indian homes well: wardrobe and kitchen shutters, a main door, a study's bookshelves, with a light wall colour around them.
- Pair with (our guidance): White Down or another warm off-white, brass handles, teak, and white marble or Kota stone.
The brands that have not announced yet
Asian Paints
Status checked 18 Oct 2026: no 2027 colour announced. The Asian Paints ColourNext page still shows its Colour of the Year 2026, Moonlit Silk (7809). That colour was launched on 24 February 2026 (ANI release via ThePrint), so the 2027 pick may not come until next year. We will add it here when it is announced.
Berger
Status checked 18 Oct 2026: no 2027 colour announced. We found no Berger colour of the year of its own on bergerpaints.com. In recent years Berger's site has written about Pantone's colour instead, for example its Pantone Colour of the Year 2026 post. We will add a Berger 2027 colour here if one is announced.
Nerolac (Kansai Nerolac)
Status checked 18 Oct 2026: no 2027 colour announced. We found no 2027 colour of the year on nerolac.com. We will add it here when one is announced.
Indigo Paints
Status checked 18 Oct 2026: no 2027 colour announced. Indigo has published its own picks before, such as its Colours of the Year 2025 post in December 2024. For 2026 its site covered Pantone's colour. We will add a 2027 pick here if one is announced.
Pantone
Pantone's 2027 colour is not out yet, and we will not guess it. Pantone announces in December: its 2026 colour, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, was introduced on 4 December 2025 (Pantone press release).
What the 2027 picks have in common
Four of the five announced colours are greens, and all five are muted rather than bright. The brands give similar reasons: calm, balance and a link to nature. The greens run from Celery, the lightest, to Grounded, the darkest.
Our view: muted greens and grey-blues sit comfortably next to the materials Indian homes already use, such as teak, cane, Kota stone, marble and brass, so they should outlast this year's announcements. What will date faster is painting a whole flat in a single colour of the year. Use one of these on joinery, a feature wall or one room, and keep the rest neutral. How to test a colour of the year in an Indian home
- Get a physical sample. Screens are not paint.
- Paint two large patches, at least A3 size, on the sunniest wall and the darkest wall of the room (our guidance).
- Look at them morning, afternoon and night, under your own lamps. Cool-white and warm-white LEDs change greens a lot.
- Think about the monsoon. Months of overcast light make mid-tones read darker and greyer.
- Fix damp first. A new colour on a damp wall will blister and stain; our guide to waterproofing by climate covers the fixes.
- Matching an overseas colour: Valspar, Behr and Sherwin-Williams name US retailers in their releases. If you cannot buy the brand locally, ask a dealer to match a physical chip and judge it on your wall (our guidance).

What is the colour of the year 2027?
There is no single one: each brand picks its own. As of 18 Oct 2026, Valspar chose Cottage Door 8004-38E, Behr chose Grounded (T27-01), Dulux chose Soulful Sage, Sherwin-Williams chose Celery SW 6421 and Benjamin Moore chose Webster Green HC-130.
What is the Asian Paints colour of the year 2027?
Asian Paints had not announced one when we checked on 18 Oct 2026. Its current pick is the 2026 colour, Moonlit Silk (7809), launched on 24 February 2026.
What is the Pantone colour of the year 2027?
It has not been announced. Pantone names its colour in December; the 2026 colour, Cloud Dancer (11-4201), was announced on 4 December 2025.
Which 2027 colour suits a small Indian flat?
Our guidance: the lighter ones, Celery and Soulful Sage, on walls. Save Grounded (LRV 9) and Webster Green (LRV 20.2) for doors, shutters or a single wall, so the room keeps its light.
Will these greens look dated in a few years?
Our view: muted greens used on one wall or on joinery tend to age well. A whole home painted in one trend colour is what dates fastest.
