A four-line Instagram bio formula for interior designers (what you design, where, your proof, the next step), with 30 example bios for made-up studios across Indian cities.
A strong Instagram bio for an interior designer says four things in 150 characters or fewer: what you design, where, one piece of proof, and the next step for a client. Put your studio name, service and city in the name field so search can match it, make your full portfolio the first link, and back each bio line with a highlight. Below: the fields, the formula and 30 example bios.
About the details below: field limits and rules come from Instagram's Help Centre and Instagram's own explainer on search, read on 18 Oct 2026. Instagram changes these, so check the app. The four-line formula, the emoji advice and the highlight pairings are MOA's guidance. The 30 bios were written by MOA for made-up studios: every studio detail and number in them is invented. Write only what is true for you.
This post is about the bio and the fields around it, nothing else. For where Instagram sits among referrals, builders and directories, read our guide to how interior designers get clients in India.
A client sees all of these before your first post.
| Field | What Instagram says | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Search matches typed text against usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places; Instagram suggests a profile name related to your content (Instagram: Breaking Down How Instagram Search Works). | Studio name, one service, one city |
| Username | If your handle is taken, add full stops, numbers, underscores or abbreviations (Help Centre: username already claimed). On accounts with wide reach a change may be reviewed, and followers may be notified (Help Centre: change your profile information). | A short handle close to the studio name |
| Category | Professional accounts show a category below the profile image, taken from the linked Facebook Page; you can hide it (Help Centre: professional accounts). Edit it under Edit profile, then Public business information (Help Centre: edit business information). | The closest interior design category on offer |
| Bio | "You can write a bio of up to 150 characters", and anyone can see it (Help Centre: add a bio). | The four lines below |
| Links | Up to five websites, visible to anyone on or off Instagram, and you can reorder them (Help Centre: add a website). | Your full portfolio first |
| Contact button | On professional accounts it sits near the top of the profile and can hold directions, a phone number and an email address, seen by anyone who taps it (Help Centre: professional accounts). | The studio number and email |
| Highlights | Stories added as highlights stay on your profile until you remove them, and people allowed to see your stories can see them (Help Centre: Story Highlights). | Evidence for each bio line |
The Help Centre pages we read give no character limit for the name or the username, so we do not quote one. Use the same number and address as your Google Business Profile.
Four short lines fit in 150 characters and answer the four questions a client has when they land on your profile: do you do my kind of project, do you work near me, can I trust you, and what do I do now. This is MOA's guidance; Instagram sets no format.
Use the words a client would type: "2BHK interiors", "modular kitchens", "clinic interiors", "office fit-outs". Instagram's search explainer calls the text people type "by far the most important signal", matched against bios among other fields. "Curating soulful spaces" matches nothing a client searches. If you do several kinds of work, lead with the one you want more of.
Name your city and two or three areas you take on. The same explainer says that if your account is location-specific, like a small business, sharing your location in the bio can help people nearby find you. Areas also filter out enquiries you cannot serve.
One fact a client could check: years in practice, homes handed over, a membership, an in-house team. Leave out "best", "award-winning" or "top" unless you can name the award. If most of your grid is renders, do not imply finished work.
One word to avoid unless you are registered with the Council of Architecture: "architect". In Council of Architecture v. Mukesh Goyal (2020), the Supreme Court read Section 37 of the Architects Act, 1972 as protecting the title and style of "architect" for registered architects, while not barring others from the practice itself (Supreme Court of India: judgment of 17 March 2020). Our guide to starting an interior design business covers what this means for a studio.
Give one action, and match it to how you want enquiries to arrive: "DM your floor plan", "Tap Contact for a site visit", or a down arrow to the link. Asking for something specific gets you a message you can answer.
The name field is the bold line above your bio, and it is separate from your @username. Search matches text, so the name field is where "interior designer" and your city do the most work. Keep the studio name first, so people who know you still find you:
One service and one city is enough. A string of keywords looks like spam.
These are examples for made-up studios, grouped by niche. No real studio is named, and the numbers, years and claims are invented to show the shape of a good line 3. Swap in your own true details. Each keeps to four lines and to 150 characters. We counted line breaks, and each emoji as two characters, to leave a margin; Instagram's page does not say how it counts them.

Instagram's help pages set no rule on emoji in bios, so this is MOA's advice:
Every bio line makes a claim. The highlights row sits right under it, so use it to back each claim up:
| Bio line | Highlight | What goes in it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. What you design | Projects | Your best finished work of the kind named in line 1, one project after another |
| 2. Where | Areas | Site and handover clips tagged with the locality |
| 3. Proof | Reviews | Client messages and handover videos, shared with the client's permission |
| 4. Next step | Start | How to enquire, what to send (floor plan, carpet area, budget band, move-in date) and how you charge |
Keep the covers plain, one colour and a one-word title, so the row reads as a menu. Remove a highlight once its work stops representing you. Highlights reach the people who are allowed to see your stories, so keep the studio account public.
The link is where a client checks the bio's promise, so the page it opens should say the same thing. Your MOA profile address takes the form memberofarchitecture.com/user/your-username. Before you add it under Edit profile, then Links, line the two up:
A free MOA profile gives you a professional profile and portfolio and commission-free client inquiries. It does not include profile analytics, so on the free plan you will not see where visitors come from. MOA Pro, at ₹99 + GST for the first month and then ₹399 + GST a month, adds unlimited uploads, featuring to people browsing from your state, city promotion credits and analytics showing which cities your profile is viewed from, how many people open each project and how long visitors stay (MOA Pro). None of this promises enquiries. Our guides to building your MOA profile and publishing projects on MOA cover the profile itself, and clients also browse the MOA interior designers directory.
Four lines: what you design, where you work, one checkable piece of proof and the next step for a client. Put your studio name, service and city in the name field, and your portfolio as the first link.
150 characters, according to Instagram's Help Centre page on adding a bio, read on 18 Oct 2026. Check the app, as limits change.
Yes, with your city. Instagram's search explainer says results are matched by text and advises a handle or profile name related to what you post.
Not unless registered with the Council of Architecture. The Supreme Court held in 2020 that Section 37 of the Architects Act protects the title and style of "architect", though not the practice.
