13 wall paint colour combinations for living rooms, halls and bedrooms, taken from Asian Paints, Berger, Nerolac, Dulux and Indigo shade pages, with codes, where each suits and the finish to use.
A wall paint colour combination that works in most Indian living rooms and bedrooms has three parts: a light base on most walls and the ceiling, one deeper shade on a single wall, and a darker third colour kept to doors, trim or a niche. Below are 13 combinations taken from the paint brands' own shade pages (Asian Paints, Berger, Nerolac, Dulux and Indigo), with each shade's name and code exactly as published, the rooms each suits, and the finish to ask for.
About the colours below: every shade name, code and screen colour comes from the brand's own shade page, read on 21 October 2026. Each set is a pairing the brand itself publishes on that page. Which colour goes on which wall, and anything marked "our guidance", is MOA's view, not the brand's. Screens and printers shift colour, so treat the swatches as a guide and test a sample pot on your wall before you buy. Prices are the brand's printed MRP, inclusive of taxes, for paint only.
Most combination lists pair colours by eye. We took ours from the brands. Every Asian Paints shade page has a "Goes well with" row of four shades, Berger's a "Goes Well With" row of three, Nerolac's four "Shades that work well with", Dulux India's a "Combination with Neutrals", and Indigo publishes room-by-room pairs on its Trending Colour Combinations page.
One pattern stood out. Across the 231 Asian Paints shade pages listed first on its ten colour-family pages, Soothing Silk (9531), a warm beige, appears as a partner on 70 and Deep Teal (7454) on 65. A warm beige base with one strong colour is the brand's own most common answer.

Blush (L139) is tagged "Ideal for All rooms" and lists Warm Khaki-N (K206) and Vintage Walnut (8773) among its partners. Blush on most walls and the ceiling, Warm Khaki-N on the TV wall, Vintage Walnut on doors or a niche. Suits: a north-facing hall or long passage, as the base is warm.
Nerolac's Lotus Seed (4936) page names Log House (4938) and Cabin Log (4949) among its partners: three steps of one beige. Lotus Seed on the walls, Log House on a feature wall, Cabin Log on trim. Suits: a dusty hall or a home with children; mid beiges show marks less than white (our guidance).
Dulux India's Amazon Leaf page groups it with Snowed In and Gravel Pit under "Combination with Neutrals". The site shows no shade code, so quote the name at the dealer. Deep green on one wall, Snowed In elsewhere, Gravel Pit on trim. Suits: a living room with good daylight and a pale ceiling.
The Vrindavan Project's Heirloom House shows it in a real room: one green wall, white ceiling and frames, cream sofas.
Taupe Grey (2913) lists Grey Shadow (2946) and Elegant Grey (4531) among its partners. Taupe Grey on the walls, Grey Shadow on the ceiling and trim, Elegant Grey on one wall. Suits: a west-facing hall, where the greyer set calms hot evening light (our guidance).
Sharp Navy-N (9642) is tagged for living rooms and niches, and pairs with Stratos-N (9645) and Soothing Silk (9531). Soothing Silk on the walls, Sharp Navy-N behind the sofa, Stratos-N on the ceiling. Suits: a large, bright living room, not a small dim one.
Russet Rust-N (9982) is tagged for the living room, balcony and dining room, and pairs with Soft Whisper (9476) and Yellow Iris (7937). Soft Whisper on the walls, Russet Rust-N on one wall, Yellow Iris in a niche. Suits: an open living and dining room.
Indigo's living room pairs include Llama (5-10-2) with Robin Hood (4-23-7), which it likens to olives and white sand. Indigo publishes no screen values for them, so they are not on our card; ask the dealer for the chips.
Scuba Blue (7273) is tagged for the living room, bedroom and prayer room, and pairs with Soothing Silk (9531) and Gothic Grey (8312). Scuba Blue behind the bed, Soothing Silk on the rest, Gothic Grey on a panel or trim. Suits: a hot west- or south-facing bedroom (our guidance).
Berger's Fishing Pier (8D2772) page lists Tender Grey (8T1708), Garden Of Eden (7D1470) and Primeval Forest (7A1496) under "Goes Well With". Tender Grey on most walls, Fishing Pier behind the bed, Garden Of Eden on wardrobe shutters or the door. Suits: a restful master bedroom.
Berger's Tickled Pink (1P0473) goes with Leather Gloves (8D2732), Alice's Dream (1T1977) and Biscuit Beige (7P0183). We use the two neutrals: Tickled Pink on the walls, Biscuit Beige on the bed wall, Leather Gloves on trim. Suits: a guest room or a daughter's room, warm without turning sugary.
Nerolac describes Posey Green (2527) as a light pastel green with a grey undertone, and lists the deep green Mayfair (2553) among its partners. Posey Green on the walls and Mayfair on a headboard panel or a strip behind the bed. Suits: a bedroom with good daylight.
540X Partners' Nirvana in Rajkot does this with one pale sage wall and a white ceiling.

Indigo's bedroom pairs include Comfy Tan (4-9-2) with Muddy Paws (5-4-5), which it calls "biscuity". Check the chips at the dealer.

Codes are brand-specific. Blush L139 is an Asian Paints code, and another brand's dealer cannot read it. If you mix brands in one home, buy each colour from its own brand.
A combination is mostly about proportion. The split below is common practice and our guidance:
A bedroom at the Heirloom House uses the three-part split in a bolder key, and the maroon band takes the knocks a lower wall gets.
At Deep's Mansion in Bengaluru, the colour sits only inside white moulding frames, a neat way to try a colour without painting a whole wall. We do not name brand shades for these photos: colour in a photo depends on light and camera.
Indigo Paints' guide to north-facing rooms (June 2026) says these rooms get softer, cooler light, recommends warm neutrals, earthy tones and sage greens, and suggests avoiding icy grey, bright white and steel blue. Check a swatch by day and under LED light at night. Combinations 1, 2 and 12 fit.
The same guide warns that deep green, charcoal, navy and dark brown can make a small room feel heavy. Keep the deep colour to a panel, and paint walls and ceiling one light shade (our guidance).
Brands sell the same colour in several finishes. Berger's Silk range comes in Matt, Soft Sheen and High Sheen. Asian Paints describes Royale Luxury Emulsion as a soft sheen finish at ₹810 for 1 litre and ₹15,210 for 20 litres (MRP, inclusive of taxes), and Royale Shyne as high sheen at ₹879 for 1 litre. Our guidance:
Textured finishes are a different job, covered in our coming post on texture paint designs and cost.
A warm light base with one deeper wall suits most, such as Asian Paints' Blush (L139) with Warm Khaki-N (K206). In a large, sunny room, try Sharp Navy-N (9642) or Russet Rust-N (9982) on one wall.
A pale shade on three walls and a deeper one behind the bed. Nerolac's Posey Green (2527) with Mayfair (2553), or Berger's Tender Grey (8T1708) with Fishing Pier (8D2772), are two brand-published pairs.
A warm off-white or beige base, such as Blush (L139) or Nerolac's Lotus Seed (4936), with one feature wall. In a west-facing hall, a warm grey such as Taupe Grey (2913) (our guidance).
Either works if the ceiling is the lightest colour in the room. In a small room, painting walls and ceiling the same light shade blurs the edges, so the room feels bigger (our guidance).
