Kitchen trends for 2027 with a source for each: green shutters, matt finishes, the silica question on quartz, handle-less hardware, built-in lighting, star-labelled induction and how each works in an Indian kitchen.
About the trends below: each one is tied to a named source we opened: a paint brand's 2027 announcement, reports from EuroCucina 2026 in Milan, Indian manufacturers and trade press, a government notification or an MOA member's project. Where a line is MOA's own judgement, it says "our view". Facts are as of 18 October 2026, and this page will be refreshed as more 2027 colours are announced.
Kitchen trends for 2027 point one way: softer greens and warm wood on matt, fingerprint-resistant shutters, handle-less fronts that open with a groove or a push, counters chosen with silica in mind, lighting built into the cabinets, and induction hobs that carry a mandatory BEE star label from 1 January 2027. Below is each trend, its source, and how it works in an Indian kitchen with tadka smoke, masala, oil, heavy steel vessels, a helper at the sink and monsoon damp.
Our 2026 kitchen trends list covered curved islands, the slab "countersplash", hidden sculleries, fluting and mixed metals. This post covers what moved since, with sources.

Four big paint brands have named a 2027 colour, and all four chose a green. Behr named Grounded (T27-01), an earthy olive, on 26 August 2026 (Behr). Dulux named Soulful Sage, a soft grey-green, on 8 September 2026 (Dezeen). Sherwin-Williams chose Celery (SW 6421) on 15 September 2026 (Sherwin-Williams). Its colour marketing manager Ashley Banbury singled out kitchen cabinets as a favourite use (Hunker). Benjamin Moore followed with Webster Green (HC-130) on 14 October 2026 (Benjamin Moore; date from Hardware Retailing).
Indian brands: when we checked on 18 October 2026, Asian Paints' ColourNext page still showed its 2026 colour, Moonlit Silk (7809), and named no 2027 colour (Asian Paints). We found no 2027 colour from Berger. Pantone announces in December.
Indian makers got there first. In Architect and Interiors India (February 2026), Vaishali Shah of Interio by Godrej listed sage and olive greens, greige and earthy tones with wood and matt finishes as preferred palettes (A&I India). Häfele India's 2026 trend guide suggests "gentle green, warm beige and soft terracotta" (Häfele India). On MOA, Riddhima Namdev's Project Reframe (Hyderabad, 2025) pairs sage shutters with a green stone counter, and Shilpa Baranwal's Madhusudan Row House (Surat, 2026) uses matte petrol-blue cabinetry.
Our view: put green on base units or one tall bank, and keep the wall behind the hob dark, because pale surfaces there yellow with tadka smoke. Check samples under your own kitchen light: a sage in daylight can turn grey under cool LEDs.
The finish matters more than the colour in an Indian kitchen. Interio by Godrej's Vaishali Shah called matt, fingerprint-resistant finishes practical and easy to maintain, and "well-suited for Indian households where kitchens see heavy daily use" (A&I India). Laminate makers sell this as a category: Greenlam describes its AFX range as "almost zero-reflection ultra matt" and anti-fingerprint (Greenlam, a manufacturer's claim). Häfele India's guide adds light oak, walnut and cherry wood finishes, and fluted panels and grooved doors (Häfele India).
At EuroCucina 2026, kbbreview's George Dean reported cabinets in mirror, glass and steel, and wrote that mirrored cabinet units "seem to have absolutely exploded" (kbbreview).
Our view: use matt, fingerprint-resistant shutters on the base units you touch with oily or masala-stained hands, and save gloss, mirror or steel for wall units away from the hob, where splatter and smudges show at once. Louvred shutters, like the ones in Atelier Shreenu's Garden Home, let a dry-goods cupboard breathe through the monsoon. The carcass decides how long any shutter lasts: our modular kitchen layouts guide covers BWP plywood and HDHMR.
The biggest countertop shift is about health, not looks. A 2026 hazard alert from the US agencies OSHA and NIOSH gives typical crystalline silica content by stone: engineered stone from under 0.2 to 95 per cent depending on the product, granite 10 to 50 per cent, marble and limestone under 5 per cent, and quartzite 95 per cent or more. The danger is dust from cutting, grinding and polishing, not a slab sitting in your kitchen (OSHA and NIOSH). The agencies recommend wet cutting, local exhaust and products with little or no crystalline silica (AIHA).
Australia has prohibited the use, supply and manufacture of engineered stone, in most states from 1 July 2024; installed slabs can stay (AIHS; Dezeen). We found no similar ban in India.
Indian kitchens still lean on stone: Shilpa Baranwal's 2026 Madhusudan Row House uses polished black granite counters, and Bharti Dangi's 2025 Jodhpur residence lists a quartz countertop with acrylic shutters.
Our view: granite remains the safest all-rounder beside an Indian hob, with hot kadhais and turmeric its daily diet. If you choose quartz, ask for the silica content on the data sheet, and have sink and hob cut-outs made wet, at the workshop rather than in your flat. Marble is low in silica but soft, and lemon, tamarind and haldi mark it, so keep it to a baking or serving counter.
The slab backsplash from our 2026 list has settled into Indian practice. The Madhusudan Row House specifies "full-height marble splashbacks" (Shilpa Baranwal on MOA), and Atelier Shreenu's Garden Home sets a black glass panel into a marble splash right behind the hob (photo above).
Our view: fewer joints means fewer grease lines after tadka, so a slab or large-format tile beats small mosaics behind the stove. Behind the hob itself, toughened glass or a dark stone wipes clean and hides the yellowing that pale marble shows.
Häfele India lists "push-to-open doors and J-pull grooves instead of bulky traditional handles" as a 2026 trend (Häfele India), and kbbreview saw several handle-less kitchens with integrated lighting at EuroCucina 2026 (kbbreview). Hettich's Push to open is a mechanical system for drawers and hinged doors, and its Push to open Silent adds gentle closing (Hettich). Häfele India's Harshal Mundhe told A&I India that soft-close systems, ergonomic layouts and easy-access storage are now standard in high-end kitchens built for "heavy cooking" (A&I India).
Steel utensils are heavy. Blum India rates its LEGRABOX drawers in two load classes, 40 kg and 70 kg (Blum India), so ask for the higher class on the drawer that holds the pressure cookers, kadhais and the steel thali stack. Our view: a J-groove or a gola profile is easier on base units than push-to-open, because oily fingers on a push-latch leave prints and a helper leaning on the counter can pop it open. Keep push-to-open for wall units and lift-ups. Pick mechanisms a cook or helper can use without instructions, and skip electric openers without dependable power backup.
Häfele India recommends light "at different heights", with LED strips under the wall cabinets for the work surface (Häfele India). At EuroCucina 2026, next125 showed LumiQ, developed with Häfele, which kbbreview says combines mood and task lighting across worktops, open shelving and drawers (kbbreview).
Our view: the chimney casts a shadow on the hob, so light the cooking zone separately from the ceiling. Use LED profiles with a closed diffuser that can be wiped, not bare strips where oil mist settles, and keep drivers out of the sink unit.
The firmest 2027 date in this list is Indian. The Ministry of Power made BEE star labelling mandatory for countertop induction hobs from 1 July 2026, then moved the date to 1 January 2027 by a notification of 4 April 2026 (Gazette of India, S.O. 1738(E)). Government support for induction came earlier: EESL's National Efficient Cooking Programme, launched in November 2023, set out to distribute 20 lakh induction cookstoves and cites a cost advantage of 25 to 30 per cent over traditional cooking (PIB).
From Milan, kbbreview reported appliances moving towards colour and the grip of matt black "weakening at last" (kbbreview). The fair's own report highlights extraction hidden from view, from Bora, which takes the extractor out of sight, to Falmec's Mimesis concept, which builds extraction into the architecture (Salone del Mobile.Milano).
Our view: a hybrid hob, with gas for the round-bottomed kadhai and induction for pressure cookers and boiling, suits most Indian families better than going all-induction. From January, check the BEE star label on any countertop induction hob you buy. Tadka throws smoke and oil upwards, so a ducted hood above the hob still beats hidden extraction.
EuroCucina 2026 framed the kitchen as part of the living room, with fewer barriers between rooms (Salone del Mobile.Milano), and Houzz saw the island becoming "a central hub for connection" (Houzz). In India, A&I India reports open-concept kitchens, islands and breakfast bars (A&I India).
India already had an answer: Houzz India describes the wet and dry split: a closed wet kitchen with tiled walls, chimney and exhaust for full meals, and a dry kitchen that extends the living or dining room for light tasks (Houzz India).
Our view: if you want the island, keep the hob on a wall run near the duct and close the cooking zone with a sliding glass partition, so smoke stays in and light comes through. Give the helper's washing area its own sink in the utility balcony, so heavy vessels never cross the cook's path. Our layouts guide gives the room widths each plan needs, and Vastu for kitchens covers stove and sink placement.

Soft greens. Behr, Dulux, Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore all picked greens for 2027, and Indian makers already list sage and olive with wood and matt finishes.
It works in use, but the silica content of engineered stone matters when slabs are cut. Ask for the data sheet and wet cutting. Granite remains a durable choice beside an Indian hob.
Yes, from 1 January 2027, BEE star labelling is mandatory for countertop induction hobs under a Ministry of Power notification.
